Imozuru privacy policy
Updated 28 October 2026
Imozuru (芋づる) teaches kanji vocabulary. It has no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. This page says exactly what leaves your iPhone, and why.
What stays with you
- Your learning progress (the kanji you've chosen, your reviews and settings) is stored on your iPhone. If iCloud is on for Imozuru, it is also kept in your own private iCloud database, which only your Apple Account can read. The developer can't see it.
- Game Center: if you are already signed in to Game Center on your iPhone, the app tells Game Center which achievements you've earned, unless you turn it off in Settings. The app never asks you to sign in on its own; GameKit's sign-in sheet appears only if you turn Game Center on in Settings or tap Sign in there. Apple handles your Game Center identity and collects the achievement progress; the app never reads or stores your identity, and the developer doesn't receive it.
- Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone. Nothing is sent to a server.
What is sent to the developer
Imozuru uses Sentry, a service for crash and error reports. Three kinds of data are sent to it, and nothing else. The last two are sent only when you tap Send.
Crash and error reports
When the app crashes, or something goes wrong that it can't fix by itself (for example, iCloud sync failing in an unexpected way), it sends a report so the problem can be fixed. A report contains:
- what went wrong, and where in the app's code;
- the app version and the version of its word database;
- your iPhone model, iOS version, language, region setting and time zone;
- a short trail of recent app events, such as "iCloud sync failed".
A report doesn't contain your name, email, Apple Account, IP address, a user or device identifier, your learning progress, screenshots, or what you type. It isn't linked to you and isn't used for tracking or advertising.
You can turn these reports off at any time in Settings › Send crash reports.
Word reports
If you choose Report a problem… on a word, the app sends:
- which word it is (its dictionary ID, spelling and reading);
- the reason you picked (wrong reading, wrong meaning, bad example sentence, or shouldn't be in the app);
- the note you wrote, if any;
- the app and word database versions, and the same device details and trail of recent app events as a crash report.
It's sent only when you tap Send, and it doesn't include your name, email or account. Please don't write personal information in the note. If you're offline, the report waits on your iPhone and is sent the next time the app can reach Sentry.
Feedback
If you choose Settings › Send feedback…, the app sends:
- what it's about (a problem, an idea or feature request, or something else);
- the note you wrote;
- your email address, only if you type one so the developer can reply;
- the app and word database versions, and the same device details and trail of recent app events as a crash report.
Without an email, feedback is as anonymous as a word report. With one, it is linked to that address, which is used only to answer you. Like word reports, feedback is sent even if crash reports are turned off, because you chose to send it, and it waits on your iPhone if you're offline.
Where the data goes and how long it stays
Sentry stores reports in the United States (Functional Software, Inc.; Sentry's privacy policy). Reports are deleted automatically at the end of Sentry's retention period (90 days). They are used only to fix crashes, to correct the word list, to improve the app and to reply to feedback, and are never sold or shared with anyone else.
Children
Imozuru is suitable for all ages and collects nothing that identifies anyone, child or adult, unless they type an email address into Send feedback.
